Jackie Gleason starred as Chester A. Riley in the Life Of Riley in the first season, and William Bendix was supposed to be Riley but did not play Riley until season two due to I=contract obligations, Tonsils is the very first Life Of Riley show. This show aired on October 4, 1949. The second series with William Bendix ran from 1953 to 1958. Jackie Gleason starred, as Riley with Rosemary DeCamp as his wife Peg, Gloria Winters as his daughter Barbara (Babs), Lanny Rees as his son Chester Jr. (Junior), and Sid Tomack as Jim Gillis, his friend, and neighbor.
