This video is an official NASA video that was filmed on January 28, 1986. The Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated after 73 seconds into its flight. The result is that all seven crew members aboard. were killed. The crew of the Challenger was scheduled to deploy a communications satellite, also to study Halley's Comet while in orbit,. The crew included a school teacher Christa McAuliffe. Since a civilian school teacher was aboard, the result was a higher than usual media interest and media coverage of the mission. Sadly, the launch which led to the subsequent disaster were seen live in many schools across the United States.
Officially, "The cause of the disaster was the failure of the primary and secondary redundant O-ring seals in a joint in the shuttle's right solid rocket booster".
